A Successful Start to 2018

2018 OFF TO A GREAT START

Hopes for a successful start to the year for James and Sons of Fakenham at yesterday’s auction rested largely on lot 17 (left), a Battle of Jutland medal group awarded to Chief Gunner A E Seymour.

With over 150 people signed to bid online via www.the-saleroom.com the stage was set.

As hors d’oeuvre to the main event, lot 7 (see composite image on right), a collection of Masonic medals with a modest estimate of £30-50 went for £200.

Lot 17 then sent the internet wild, the key feature of the group being an exceedingly rare Order of St Anne gold medal. The price reached a staggering £8,200 before the hammer went down.

While nothing else at the auction came close to matching the sale of lot 17, lots 718, 852 and 864 late in the day all went for much more than expected.
