Our auction at the Maid’s Head, Norwich, on Saturday 25th February drew an audience of archivists and historians as a collection of documents from as early as 1514 sold for a total of £2,000. An autograph album [lot 351] estimated at £100, containing the autographs of the cast of Dad’s Army among many others, sold for £615, a collection of postcards of Wells-next-the-Sea for £225, and a collection of cigarette cards for £200. Early toys drew high bidding with two Tri-ang railway lots estimated at £25 and £200, selling for £420 and £1,200 respectively.
This was the first sale of this type that James&Sons had held for ten years and another is being prepared for April. James&Sons also announced that for the March sale it will be joining saleroom.com in a drive to secure a larger world-wide audience by allowing viewing and bidding live online.
