A Rescue station Edinburgh Mine (H.M. 1929) Awarded to John Swanstone. Arniston No.1 Team 13.7.29. Edge inscribe – presented by Siebe, Gorman and Co. Ltd. London. John Swanston (E) was in the Royal Artillery and later was a part-time rescue worker attached to the Heriot Watt Rescue Station. The rescue station covered the Lothian’s coal mining area and in 1929 was funded by Private Mine owners, e.g.: Lothian Coal Company. It would seem that Siebe Gorman sponsored rescue competitions, and probably the 1929 winners were the Arniston No.1 team of which John Swanston was a member. £150 – 250
